Topcon - National Broadcast Ad
My Roles: Producer | Copywriter | Storyboard Artist | Illustrator | Animator | Sound Designer
In late 2020, I was tasked with creating a 30 second ad for Topcon to air on AgPhD’s national braodcast. When a new project like this lands on my desk, my first step is always the same - understanding exactly what the client is looking for!
Topcon had a simple goal - to eliminate data silos and empower farmers to use the data they collect. During our onboarding and exploratory meeting, Topcon shared the idea that data “gets locked in silos." Our goal was to break down those data/silo walls. I wanted to try an abstract approach. Topcon was interested.
After a few days of sourcing inspiration and brainstorming ways to show “data” in a visually appealing and engaging way, I created the first storyboard draft. Designing in black and white makes it easy to know if the composition works before adding color.
Topcon loved the idea. It was fresh and different, which is always a good thing. Since the design could already stand on it’s own in black & white, adding color really brought this piece to life. I followed the 60:30:10 rule of color, opting for 60% of the image to be dark blues, 30% whites, and 10% pops of complementary colors like yellow.
